Lumen

Co-founder + Director
2014 - Present

Lumen is an art collective focused on themes of astronomy and light, regularly exhibiting in churches as well as galleries.  Through art, exhibitions and seminars we aim to raise a dialogue about how humanity understands existence. The members of Lumen are myself, Melanie King and Rebecca Huxley.

Exhibitions and Events
Lumen regularly curates exhibitions in the Lumen Crypt Gallery in Bethnal Green, across London and in Europe.  We also commission artists and co-curators.

Residencies

Lumen has curated residencies in the Lake District, Cornwall and Italy.

For four years, Lumen has run a residency based around the themes of astronomy and light in Atina, Italy, in collaboration with Natasha Sabatini. Natasha is originally from Atina.

This two-week residency is set up to help like-minded artists from multi-disciplines develop their practice in a relaxed, yet productive environment. The peaceful village of Atina, situated 154km from Rome in the province of Frosinone-Lazio, benefits from natural darkness, natural beauty and is a great spot for viewing the Moon, stars and meteor showers. Staying on site, artists have the opportunity to create works responding to the variety of astronomical sights found there, to be showcased in exhibitions in Atina and London. Large studio space, observatory trips, telescope access, small local bars/restaurants, film screenings.
