Dr Anik Halder was born and raised in Durgapur (West Bengal), India. After graduating from high school, he moved to Germany to study Physics in Bremen, and later completed his MSc and PhD in Astrophysics in Munich. At various stages of his studies, Anik worked as a tutor, research assistant, and software developer. After receiving his PhD, he joined the Institute of Astronomy and Jesus College in Cambridge as a postdoctoral research associate in 2024.

Anik’s research focuses on understanding the large-scale structure of the cosmos using surveys that map the distribution of millions of galaxies. He works at the interface of theory and observation and his research spans galaxy formation and evolution, gravitational lensing cosmology, and the inference of physical properties of galaxies from large imaging datasets.
