Lumen is an art collective focused on themes of astronomy and light, regularly exhibiting in churches as well as galleries. Through art, exhibitions and seminars we aim to raise a dialogue about how humanity understands existence. The members of Lumen are Louise Beer, Melanie King and Rebecca Huxley.
Exhibitions and Events
Lumen regularly curates exhibitions in the Lumen Crypt Gallery in Bethnal Green, across London and in Europe. You can keep up to date with our events here.
Lumen runs a residency based around the themes of astronomy and light in Atina, Italy. You can read more about it and apply here.
This two-week residency is set up to help like-minded artists from multi-disciplines develop their practice in a relaxed, yet productive environment. The peaceful village of Atina, situated 154km from Rome in the province of Frosinone-Lazio, benefits from natural darkness, natural beauty and is a great spot for viewing the Moon, stars and meteor showers. Staying on site, artists have the opportunity to create works responding to the variety of astronomical sights found there, to be showcased in exhibitions in Atina and London. Large studio space, observatory trips, telescope access, small local bars/restaurants, film screenings.
Lumen runs this residency in collaboration with Natasha Sabatini, a London based artist, originally from Atina.
The Lumen Crypt Gallery is based in the crypt of St John on Bethnal Green Church, London. We curate and host exhibitions, BYOBs, talks, screenings, sound events and more.
